    Cool dive clear

Someone riding a horse finds his mount collapsing, and then:

He frantically dived clear, rolling when he hit the floor

What's the meaning of "diving clear" here?

Does it mean jumping forwards blindly, as if for dodging the hit?

    Thanks

    Re: dive clear

He jumped ("dived") out of the way ("clear") so as not to be crushed by the falling horse.

    Re: dive clear

And since he ends by rolling, he has jumped head first from the horse, landing on his shoulders in order to roll clear.
