    Disrupted or interrupted

Hot water beginning to flow at Borgata

The hotel hot water supply was interrupted when a water main broke Monday night, said The Press of Atlantic City.

I want to know whether 'disrupted' can be replaced for interrupted . Thank you.

    Hello,

I am not a teacher, but I believe the word interrupted it's better in this case, because the meaning of it suggests something that has normally a continual flow like 'the flow of water.

Do you follow what I reckon?

The real question is to know if the word disrupted is nice in the sense that the author wants to show.

Have a nice day (sorry for my mistakes I'm just a learner).

The only time I know the use of 'disrupt' is when I read a telephone bill from Bell South, there was a line stating service might be disrupted if a customer failed to pay the bill on time. Do you think in that case, 'interrupt' could be used as well?

    Hi,

I think the meaning between the both words is not big. Maybe for English people 'interrupted' differs a little in the acception, but I'm not an English person and I hope some English can settle our point of view.

Sorry to be not able to help you more but I still believe the border line of the meaning of these two words it's not so big.

See you soon on the forum.

    Re: Disrupted or interrupted

I think "disrupted" would more likely be used in a sentence like:
    .
Protesters disrupted the proceedings with loud denunciations of Mr. Kohlrabi.
