Do you know right from wrong?

    Is it colloquial or not?

I'd say it's quite commonly used.

What would be the difference if I said "Do you tell right from wrong?" ?

"Can you tell right from wrong" would be better. The use of "do" auxilliary or "did", the simple past auxilliary, all the time, is a dimunution of the language for me.

Sorry that I couldn't make myself clear. I was trying to ask the difference between "know from " and "tell from". I do use "can" for such a question but since my emphasis was "tell from", I didn't change the question.
