    Cookbook English

    150ml dry white wine
    salt and black pepper
    dried oregano, to taste
about 8 fresh basil leaves, chopped

What does "to taste" mean here?

    Preheat the oven to 190˚C / 375˚F / gas mark 5

Does "gas mark 5" mean that I should preheat the oven for 5 minutes?

    Re: Cookbook English

"to taste" - no concrete amount specified, just to suit your taste (in recipies often used with spices),

"gas mark 5" - some ovens follow a temperature standard: the subsequent markings of the dial around the oven flame knob correspond to the same temperatures across a whole range of commercially available ovens (even from different manufacturers). So the "5" here is not time, it's the flame intensity setting.

    All the best,
