    What does this sentence mean?

Please make this sentence simple for me to understand.

So there is, I think, a great pressure from the government right now to make sure that we have conscious decisions to support these kinds of industries based on the mining.

Re: What does this sentence mean?

I believe the government is trying to help the mining industry.
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.

May be the meaning is the following:
I think that there is a great pressure from the govenment right now.
The pressure is that to make sure that we have conscious decisions to support these kinds of industries based on the mining.

I would just put "and ancilliary industries" in the place of "industry" in Barb's answer.

Re: What does this sentence mean?

It is often quite difficult to understand the intended meaning of a sentence outside of context. So we can only make educated guesses.

Maybe what makes it hard to understand is that one normally expects the goverment to be under pressure from the representatives of the mining sector.

    Perhaps:
