hi! please help me...

1. what's the difference betweeb burn up and burn down.

2. when writing formal letters, which one is correct?...request/ request for...because I once read that it's redundant to say "request for" because request means "ask for"...

3. please help me edit this letter too.thanks:)

" I would like to request/ request for another copy of my employment certificate. The second floor of our house burned up/down and I lost all my important documents including empoyment certificates...

I am hoping for your kind consideration ( Im not sure if this is appropriate os should i just say "Thank You!" to end my letter...:)
