Post using present or past tense?

    Dear teachers,

If now I think of something that happened a few days ago, and I want to describe those things, is it correct that I use simple present to say what I think now, but use past tense to describe what happened before in the same sentence? Will you please see if the following sentences correct?

---I gave a speech two days ago. Because I was too nervous, I don't ( or didn't?) know how I finished the speech. All I remember now is (or was?) that I rushed ( or rush?) down the stage to my mother when I heard claps from the audience.

    Thank you!

-I gave a speech two days ago. Because I was so nervous, I don't know how I finished the speech. All I remember now is that I rushed from the stage to my mother when I heard the applause from the audience.
