    change of underwear

A competitor in a competition said:

"O Boy! Did I bring a change of underwear"

Is this expression an idiom or mau it refer to anything? I'm comfused. It would be so weird to mean it literary in a cake competition!

    Thanks a lot

    Re: change of underwear

For a start you do not say what kind of competition this was. It could have been a beauty parade and a change of underwear may have been essential to go with a new costume.

It could also be that the person is referring back to the time when to have a clean set of underwear with you if you went away overnight was regarded as normal and essential. Underlying it is the sense of "Better be safe than sorry".

    Re: change of underwear

I mentioned that it's a cake compition. Can this expression be said when somebody refers that he is going to spend a lot of time doing something?

    Thanks.
