    Cool glow-coals

    In this sentence, in which I'm afraid the author has too much imagination:

    Tubes plugged into the cow's hind ends and glow-coals burned the released gas for light

    Please, what can be the meaning of glow-coals?

    "Glowing coals" pieces of hot coal, perhaps.
