"It was a hard time." - Plural

    Hello,
I'm wondering how the sentence would be as plural:
    It was a hard time.

    It were hard times.
    It was hard times.
    They were hard times.

    What's the correct sentence?
Once I learned that "It is the movies." is correct.
Is it the same rule, too?

    Cheers!

"They were hard times" is correct. Where did you learn that "It's the movies" is correct?

If you are referring to a general era, it would be "those were hard times". If you are referring to a single, personal event or incident, it would be "it was a hard time".

OK yes, in that context "It's the movies that makes them think that way" is correct. If you are using "the movies" as singular, you should be consistent.
