Dear teachers,

Would you be kind enough to tell me whether I am right with my interpretation of the expressions in bold in the following sentences?

Planting his case on the table, he looked at us expectantly.

plant = put; place

Whatever planted that idea in/into your head?

plant = put firmly in the mind

I didn't steal these jewels, they've been planted on me.

plant = place something or someone in a certain position in order to deceive; put a misleading piece of evidence placed so as to be discovered

Plainclothes men were planted all over the town.

The state security planted bugs in their apartments.

plant = to station (a person) for the purpose of functioning in secret, as by observing, spying, or influencing behavior

Over the long haul, an expensive pair of shoes may save you money.- In the long run sounds better to me.
