Dear teachers,

Would you be kind enough to tell me whether I am right with my interpretation of the expressions in bold in the following sentences?

in the end = eventually, ultimately

However, it is still too early to talk about raising incentive payments.

incentive (a) = serving to induce or motivate

11.45am - the aliens have gone back to school and our canteen oasis has calmed down a little. and Charlotte has just finished her auditions (we did remember to tell her to break a leg).

to break a leg = Good luck!

It seems like they have either given up or decided to hunker down and hope for the best.

hunker down = crouch

Where are people hustling you to come into the store?

hustle = pressure or urge someone into an action

She hustled through the crowded streets.

hustle = move or cause to move energetically or busily

The secret service agents hustled the speaker out of the amphitheater.

hustle = cause to move furtively and hurriedly

He was be-hustled into a decision.

He hustled the horse into a canter.

hustle into = compel; force

He was hustled aside.

The kid is hustled aside and our hero runs from the shop.

hustle aside = push aside

People hustled round the entrance.

hustle round = crowd; throng

They all hustled into a bus.

hustle into = pile in

The bus came and we all piled in.

Hustle up! (Get a move on!)

hustle up= to hurry up.

I won't be hustled.

He was hustled of the way.

hustle = shove out

When making a dollar is tough, you hustle up every dime.

hustle up = to prepare quickly

hunker down = get down to work, get serious


When making a dollar is tough, you hustle up every dime.

hustle up = work extra hard to get


All the others are OK :lol:

An organization pays bonus to its employees as incentive to achieve higher out-put.
A Government allows tax incentives to improve competitiveness across many sectors of economy.
