Student or Learner
1) I was in the shower so the ringing of the phone escape my hearing.
2) Sorry, what you said escape my hearing because it was too noisy.
Something may escape your attention (you didn't notice it) but it's not very natural to say something escaped your hearing.
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.
