    but or and

Please help with this sentence whether I should use "but" or "and".

Being seriously sick, he has been in the local hospital for two weeks, and (or but?) he is still unwell at the moment.

    Best regards,
    A Thai student.

    Either, but/and it's a bad sentence.
He has been in the local hospital for two weeks with a serious illness from which he hasn't recovered yet.

    Re: but or and

    Why are these sentences wrong?

    There's only one sentence.
It's not wrong. It just sounds awkward.
One reason is that it shouldn't be necessary to say that a person is sick twice, once at each end of a sentence. But it's not easy to explain a subjective sense of awkwardness.
