[Grammar] Sitting at / on / in front of the computer

Dear teachers,

I am writing a diary about what I was doing for the past few days.
Here are the sentences that I am not sure which is the best in grammar:

1) I was sitting at the computer doing my assignment until midnight
2) I was sitting on the computer doing my assignment until midnight
3) I was sitting in front of the computer doing my assignment until midnight
4) I was sitting in the front of the computer doing my assignment until midnight

Could you help please, teachers.

Sentence number one is the best, and I think sentence number 3 is correct as well, although one wouldn't really say "in front of the computer" if you were doing your homework on the computer.

I agree. Sentence 3 is acceptable but a little redundant, as you are unlikely to have been sitting "behind" the computer instead of "in front of" it!

You certainly weren't sitting ON the computer! (Although we do sometimes say "I'm on the computer" to mean "I'm using the computer".)

Sentence 1 is best.
