Why don't you start with your ideas?

Hi everyone
Hpoe that you are well
I have a question about sound patterns like rhyme and assonance![]()
what is the role of these sound patterns, Why are they used in poetry?
Many thanks in advance![]()
Why don't you start with your ideas?
But I'd add one adjective to your three; it makes them memorable.
Two examples:
- Metrical psalter - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - a translation of the Book of Psalms in verse, one of the aims being to bring the scriptures to people who couldn't read.
- The Argentine writer Jorge Luís Borges, who went blind in later life. After going blind he wrote mostly poetry, because he could do it in his head.

PS
I found this in the Wikipedia article on Borges:
Borges composed poetry throughout his life. As his eyesight waned (it came and went, with a struggle between advancing age and advances in eye surgery), he increasingly focused on writing poetry, since he could memorize an entire work in progress.
