    have "been"

    I have been to Canada.

The "been" here does not appear to be the typical "been" (to be) ln sentences like "I have been happy"

Here "been" takes a different meaning which is closer to "gone" or "visited". Am I correct?

Yes, in a sense you are right, but I see it as an expression of being rather than going, "I have been to India" I existed there, it has affected my life.

If it means "being", it is weird to say "been to India". "Existed to India" and "being to India" sound strange.
