Our two souls therefore, which are one,
Though I must go, endure not yet
A breach, but an expansion,
Like gold to aery thinness beat.
If they be two, they are two so 25
As stiff twin compasses are two ;
Thy soul, the fix'd foot, makes no show
To move, but doth, if th' other do.
And though it in the centre sit,
Yet, when the other far doth roam, 30
It leans, and hearkens after it,
And grows erect, as that comes home.
Such wilt thou be to me, who must,
Like th' other foot, obliquely run ;
Thy firmness makes my circle just, 35
And makes me end where I begun

Our souls are one and

though I must go, we are not enduring a breach,/ we are not splitting up; on the contrary, we are experiencing an expansion in the same way that gold can be strechted by beating it till it becomes very thin/a foil; Through this expansion of the area of our unified soul there will always be an endless connection between us, no matter how far and how long we will be away from one another

If our souls are separate, they are strongly connected like the feet of a compass;

your soul is the fixed foot, and even if it seems to stand still, actually it moves if the other foot does.

And though it stands in the center, it follows the movement of the other one: when the outer foot wanders far from the center the fixed one leans and listens carefully to it; when the outer foot comes back the fixed one grows erect

You will be like the center foot for me, who must move obliquely like the outer one.

Your steadiness will help me make a perfect circle and return

Thanks Rip
