Here's more context: He and I could have run, but we held our ground. After all, they knew these woods better than we did. If we ran, they would certainly catch us, and we were outnumbered. On the other hand, if we stayed where we were, we could make it seem as if we weren't much of a threat.
--- Does the last sentence imply that they didn't run away, because by standing still they looked like they weren't afraid of the other guys?
