Please help me explain the logic

I am reading a book, here is the excerpt:
" A wolf will lift his neck to let a larger wolf know that he accepts the otherís dominant role as leader. The entire world has lifted its neck to acknowledge English as the language of choice in the modern world. It wasnít all military and commercial power, either. American movies, songs, comic strips, TV series, even T-shirts all helped make English the international language of the earth by acclaim.
But only the shortsighted will consider the dominance of English reason to return foreign language materials to the bookstore and forget the whole thing. Itís precisely because the peoples of the world honour our language that we get so much more appreciation when we go out of our way to honour theirs."

My question is the logic in the 2nd paragraph. In my view, the 1st sentense means 'we should learn foreign language' while the 2nd indicates 'people honor English'. I can't figure out the connection between them. Please help me.

    Thank you~

Re: Please help me explain the logic

This passage is directed at English speakers.

Don't return your foreign language materials. Continue to learn other languages. Others will appreciate that you made an effort to learn their language -- particularly because the dominance of English means you did not have to. You can use English almost anywhere, but by making an effort to use their own language, you will make a good impression.

PS - Welcome to Using English.
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.

    Thank you, Barb_D~~
    I got it.
another question, which is the emphasis part of the last sentense, 'the peoples of the world honour our language' or the latter that clause?
I am somehow distracted by the sentense stucture since it gives me the sense that the because clause is emphasized. Therefore I think the author mainly wants to express is 'people honor English' in the last sentense.

If you wanted to emphasize something, then work the parallel ideas of "[they] honor OUR language," and "we... honor THEIRS."
