    which one (at/in) is more suitable in the sentence below?

    The ship spends 4 days in/at New York's port.

    Hello I am not a teacher,

    But in in your sentence there is not ab ig difference between the both word.

    I give you an example:

    I am at the bank (I am in front of the bank in the street) or I am in the bank (I am inside the bank).

    Do you see the sense of these prepositions, now?

    "In port" sounds right to me too.
    I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.
