Alternative- do you pronounce the 'r'? I don't. I say /peɪə/, no 'r', no lengthening.![]()
I recently started to read the phonetic symbols and in some examples I find B- (symbol)
For example
Payer /peɪər B -ə/
I want to know what the B-ə means.
Thank you very much

I pronounce the 'r'. General American is, for the most part, rhotic. Some people in some regions of the U.S. leave off the "r". However, this is considered to be a regional accent. I take it in BrE it's not considered regional. It would be RP? Is that correct?
Some dialects are rhotic; Scotland and some parts of the north, most of the centre and south would not pronounce the 'r', so RP and those regions.![]()
Thanks Guys!!!!
