    didn't think, hadn't thought

    Hello,
    Which sentence is better?
Imagine you now find something out about a person and then you say this sentence:
    I didn't think he is a snitch.
I didn't think he was a snitch. - Sounds wrong, because it sounds like Simple Past
    I didn't think he were a snitch.

I hadn't thought he is a snitch. - I think this is wrong because thought and is don't match.
    I hadn't thought he was a snitch.
    I hadn't thought he were a snitch.
    - I guess this is the right one.

Well, would be is also an option...

    Cheers!

    Re: didn't think, hadn't thought

Both "I didn't think he was a snitch" and "I hadn't thought he was a snitch."

No "were" because there's no conditional (No "if he were...")

No "is" because you were thinking back to the past and what he was then. At that time, you didn't think he was snitch.
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.

How about "I would have never thought he was a snitch"?

At least in the spoken language you hear that quite often.
