What is wrong with this sentence?

Like any mother, the kids tested her patience with their constant bickering, thereby causing her to raise her voice.

Re: What is wrong with this sentence?

The phrase "like any mother" needs to modify the mother, but what comes right after is not "the mother" but "the kids."
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.
