Is this correct? Can I use the verb "to give" in this context?

At the ruins, a weird, prehistoric animal appears, and our lives give a fatidic turn.

"Take a ........turn" "fatidic" is not really appropriate.

"Take a ........turn" "fatidic" is not really appropriate.
Cervantes, if you use the word 'fatidic' in Yakima, Washington, the majority of people would have absolutely no idea what you are talking about!!!! ;-)

Is there a different word you could use in your sentence? :)
