    Where does the stress fall?

    Hello!

    Where does the stress fall?

Below are given expressions consisting of two words. They are grouped into two, one with the stress falling on the first word, the other on the second.

The stress falling on the first word
    city editor
    community centre
    detention centre
    banqueting hall
    concert hall
    town house

    On the second word
    managing editor
    city centre
    town centre
    city hall
    town hall
    public house

There are a countless number of these expressions. I hope there will be some ways to predict where the stress falls when given such expressions.
The length of words, the degree of maturity as expressions, etc seem to be related to the matter.

    Thanks in advance

Not necessarily true. You just have to use them frequently so your ear gets trained.

I am amazed how many different ways the word "American" is stressed.
