I have a few questions regarding this text.


He whisks us through a chaotic hall, past a vast, unsteady pyramid of books and in to the most eccentric drawing room I have ever seen. There are heaving carrier bags, spilling their paper guts across the floor, and wild piles of books and papers.

what does 'heaving' mean here?

what does 'heaving' mean here?
and what does paper guts mean here?

"Heaving" is a word used to describe something very full or very busy.

"The airport was heaving with people" = there were LOTS of people there.

"Paper guts" is an analogy - your "guts" are your internal organs/intestines. So the writer is asking you to imagine that the carrier bags have "guts" which are made of paper, and the bags are so full that their "guts" are coming out and falling over the floor (spilling).
