Hello!

Among the words I noticed when I was reading the newspaper, I found the word “subterfuge”. I made a sentence as follows, using the word.

He said, “A relative of mine is to come to my home this evening.” as a subterfuge to evade what was expected him to do.

Is this sentence appropriate or not?

Thanks in advance

***** NOT A TEACHER *****

Good morning, Kazuo:

(1) Your sentence is very nice.

(2) I might just change it a bit. Maybe something like:

Tom wanted to avoid doing something, so he said, "One of my relatives is coming to visit me tonight" as a subterfuge.

Thank you.
