    put vs. put in

    If I play the vocab game "I'm packing my suitcase ...";
    can I continue:

    ... and I put 3 sweaters and one T-Shirt"

    or do I have to say

    and I put in 3 sweaters and one T-Shirt" ??

    Thanks a lot

    Cecilia

    Yes it's understandable, but not really correct.
