1. While Lucy was having an English class, I was walking to school.
2. While Lucy had an English class, I walked to school.
3. While Lucy had an English class, I was walking to school.
4. While Lucy was having an English class, I walked to school.

#2 and #4 suggest I reached school during the period the English class took place. In #1 ad #3, we (or at least I) do not know.

In 3, it is unlikely that I arrived before the class ended IMO.

4. ## Re: Help! Are these sentences correct? Thank you!

Thank you very much!
Could you please tell me why?

And what is IMO?

Let us think together.

While Lucy had an English class, I was walking to school.
The sentence says the act of my walking was in progress when the class began, a moment before the class finished, and in between. It does not say whether I was walking outside this period. We know, however, that while the class lasted, my walking was in progress, which means I could not have reached school during class. According to what the sentence says, I should have reached school at the moment that class ended, the chances for which are low, or at any moment afterwards, the chances for which are higher. It is also possible that I never reached my destination.
