Student or Learner
Hello, I am Melina from Uruguay and I´m studying English. Tomorrow I have an interview for a job and I was wondering if you could give some advices to take into account as the interview is with a english speaking man..
I have worked as a recepcionist and I´m used to speak english in fact, but the thing is that I have lost practise in formal English..
Please if you could help me I would appreciate it!
Today I received the phone call and tomorrow I have the interview at 14.00 (uruguayan time), now it´s 21.14..
Thanks again :)
Just speak normally; it may be an interview, but that doesn't mean you have to speak particularly formally. Obviously, avoid slang, but if it's a job that requires English, they will want to know whether you can communicate effectively, so trying to speak as naturally as possible will show them that. If you make a mistake, it might be a good idea to correct yourself to show that it was a slip, but don't get too worked up about it or you'll end up pausing for a long time to think of your answers and try to correct them in your head, which makes the conversation difficult. Make sure you can do things like speak about your qualifications and experience, but don't try to learn something and say it- it's very obvious when people have rehearsed answers and is unconvincing.
And good luck.
