    Turn off - down. Shut off - down.

    Hello. I am confused about these 4 phrases
    Turn it off
    Turn it down
    Shut it off
    Shut it down.

    Which one will you use for the
    A)Window
    B)Door
    C)Coffee machine
    D)Shutters
    E)Television/Monitor.

    Is there inside your brain any rule that is used to make this sort of decisions?
    Best Regards
    Alex

    Re: Turn off - down. Shut off - down.

    Hello,
    Interesting thread

    I would say:
    A)Window -> Shut it down. (I'm talking about windows that you can pull down)
    B)Door -> Shut it.
    C)Coffee machine -> Turn it off.
    D)Shutters -> Shut them down.
    E)Television/Monitor -> Turn it off.

    Would be nice if a teacher or another member could say something as well.

    **Neither a teacher nor a native speaker.**

    Cheers!
