    Nominative Absolute Participle Construction

    Dear teachers,

Would you be kind enough to share with me your opinion concerning the following sentences?

The door and window of the vacant room being open, we looked in.

The lamp having been lit, Mrs. Macallan produced her son’s letter.

This duty completed, he had three months’ leave.

It being now pretty late, we took candles and went upstairs.

A knock had come to the door, and there being nobody to answer it, Clare went out.

This morning the eye returns involuntarily to the girl in the pink cotton jacket, she being the most flexuous and finely-drawn figure of them all.

    Thank you for your efforts.

    Regards,

    V.

They strike me as being of their time.
