Walt Disney’s full name was Walter Elias Disney. He was an American film producer, director, screenwriter, voice actor, and animator. One of the most well - known motion picture producers in the world. Disney was also known as a famous cartoonist and for making Walt Disney World and Disneyland.

Walt Disney was born on December 5, 1901 in Chicago, IIIinois. His parents were Elias Disney and Flora Call Disney. He was one of five children, four boys and a girl.

When Walt was four, his family moved to a farm in Marceline, Missouri. He was very happy on the farm and developed his love of animals while living there. After the farm failed, the family moved to Kansas City, Missouri. The young Walt began to study cartooning with a correspondence school and later took classes at the Kansas City Art Institute and School of Design. In 1917, he moved back to Chicago and entered McKinley High School.

During the fall of 1918 – World War I. Walt joined the American Red Cross and drove an ambulance for the United State Army. After the war, he returned to Kansas City where he met Ub Iwerks – a young artist whose talents contributed greatly to Walt’s early success.

In 1922, Walt and Iwerks started a small studio of their own. They did a series of animated cartoon sketches called “Laugh-O-Grams” and their cartoons became widely popular in the Kansas City area. However, their company soon went bankrupt.

In 1923, Walt and Roy – his brother moved to Los Angeles to set up the Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio. They started work on a new series about a live-action litter girl who journeys to a world of animated characters entitled the “Alice Comedies”. And then Walt made a series around a new animated character “Oswald The Lucky Rabbit”. Both series made the character and their creator famous.

In 1928, Mickey Mouse was created and Walt’s talents were first used in a silent cartoon entitled “Plane Crazy”. However, before the cartoon could be released, sound burst upon the motion picture screen. Thus, Mickey made his screen debut in "Steamboat Willie," the world's first sound cartoon, which premiered at the Colony Theatre in New York.

In 1932, the production entitled “Flowers and Trees” was the first cartoon to be produced in color and win Academic Award. It was the first of 32 Academy Awards that Walt would win in his life. “Snow White” which took three years to make, was released in 1937. The first live action Disney movie, "Treasure Island," came out in 1950.

In the early 1950s Disney had initiated plans for a huge amusement park to be built near Los Angeles. When Disneyland opened in 1955, much of Disney's disposition toward nostalgic sentiment and fantasy was evident in its design and construction. It soon became a Mecca for tourists from around the world. A second Disney park - Walt Disney World built near Orlando, Florida. He never did finish this plan.

In 1966, he contracted lung cancer. He died in December at age 65. Roy carried on plans to build the Florida theme park, and it premiered in 1971 under the name Walt Disney World. It quickly became one of the world's premier vacation destinations.

Walter Elias Disney is a legend, a folk hero of the 20th century.( I don't know how to conclude it :cry::cry::cry::cry:)
