    is this sentence correct ?

    The suspect was questioned by the police and he was astonished by their line of enquiry and he declared he was innocent.

    It's not wrong, but it's awkward. I think most people would use two sentences to say all that.

    The suspect was questioned by the police and was astonished by their line of enquiry. He (strongly) declared he was innocent.

    Adding a word like "strongly" makes the sentence more in keeping with his astonishment by their line of enquiry.
