    Question -ing Ending

    What part of speech is "injuring" and why is the -ing form used? Thank you.

    "On the one hand , the source of energy depends upon carbon injuring our environment and increases the global warming in the planet."

    What do you mean by "What part of speech"?

    The -ing form here means:

    ...depends on the fact that carbon is injuring our environment....
