    Wink if ever

    Hi all,

    a) Newton has been the greatest scientist if ever there was one.
    b) Tom Hanks is the greateast actor if ever there is one.

Is the tense correctly used in both sentences, especially after 'if ever there' phrase?

    terima kasih.

Sentences like the above are not used! At least I've never heard them.

Newton was a great scientist, if ever there was one.
Tom Hanks is a great actor, if ever there was one.
