1 Which one is correct?
Do you know what the matter with him is? :tick:
Do you know what is the matter with him? This one needs a comma after "know". You should not have two independent question clauses without at least a comma separating them.

Class, don't speak to each other in class!
Class, don't talk to each other in class!

2 Which one is the best choice? They are both correct, but "speak" is a bit formal for classroom chatter.

You really should try answering the bottom two yourself. Which do you think are correct?
Can you often hear the little girl ____ in her room?
-- Yes, I can.
A. sang B. singing C. sings D. to sing

Who is going to give the talk ____ the school meeting?
A. in B. on C. at D. above

Thank you!:)

Thank you very much!

Can you often hear the little girl ____ in her room?
-- Yes, I can.
A. sang B. singing C. sings D. to sing
I would choose B singing to this sentence, but there is a word often, so I'm not sure if singing is correct.

Who is going to give the talk ____ the school meeting?
A. in B. on C. at D. above
For this sentence, I think A, B, C are correct . But it required only one answer, so I'm confused.

Thank you again!:)

"Sing" would also be correct, but not as commonly used. Besides "sing" is not a given choice, so it has to be "singing". "Often" doesn't change anything here.

Either A or C. I'd choose C "at", because it's more common.
Also, "during" works.

Thank you again!:)
You're welcome

***** NOT A TEACHER *****

Good morning, Harry.

(1) It is only my opinion, but I believe that there is a difference between

"Don't speak in class" and "Don't talk in class."

(2) To me, "Don't talk in class" is said when the teacher is upset that a student is having private conversation with another student while the teacher is trying to explain the lesson.

(3) "Don't speak in class" sounds strange to me. It sounds as if you may never open your mouth. In fact, good teachers encourage students to speak. That is, to ask questions and make comments. Teachers only request that students do so in an orderly and courteous manner.

(4) AMERICAN TEACHER: Your son is causing trouble in my class.

MRS. SMITH: Why, what's the matter?

TEACHER: He is always talking to his friends. I can't make him keep quiet.

In my opinion, "talking with his friends" in a classroom setting seems to

imply disorderly behavior.

If a teacher wrote: Tom talks too much in my class, I think that

clearly means that his private conversations disrupt the class.

I do not think that a teacher would write: Tom speaks too much in my

class. That could mean: Tom takes up too much time in my class because

he is constantly asking me questions and making comments.

Thank you.
