Hi

About how I can use the sentence: "in the presence of"?
I was thinking of this context: "In the presence of his responsabilities", meaning somebody who is being judged because he committed a crime. Is there something wrong with this specific context?

Thanks.

We would normally say, "in the light of...."

"In the presence of" means to do something when someone, usually named, is there, but even then it's a bit old-fashioned.

You could something like, "He said I was lazy in the presence of my boss", but you'd be more likely to say, "..when my boss was there."

So for crimes, you'd say, "In the light of his past record....."

In the light of OR in light of :?: ("In light of circumstances" is an often used phrase.)

What about "in front of my boss"?

We could possibly use 'Given his record...'
