It has been a while since my last post.
I'm doing English for Written Communication and came across this phrase...
'discourse conventions'.what does it means?Is it the language style associates with the field we are in?Eg,if I'm a lawyer, then I'm expected to use all the legal terms?

A discourse is an event in which a serious treatment or discussion of a subject is conducted among people in a particular field. Conventions are the accepted ways or rules that things are conducted.
IMO, discourse conventions are the proper ways of conducting a discourse like some kind of protocol. Just as there are proper ways of conducting a meeting, there are prescribed ways of conducting a discourse.

(The other meaning of 'convention' is a conference event.
