    Question Looking for a verb...

I'm looking for a verb (or an idiom) we use in the following context. You're out on a picnic and you're enjoying yourself when you suddenly feel how it'd be nicer if (for example) your friend Tom were there with you, so that he'd have fun as well. While still out we might say "What a shame Tom isn't with us!" (or if you could give me Sth more appropriate for this please). However, what could we say to that person the first time we see them after that picnic to emphasise we were thinking of them even when they were not with us. To give you a rough translation of what we use in Persian, we'd say, "your place was empty!". ***SORRY FOR BEING WORDY!***

I'm not a teacher but how about the verb "to miss"? Someone with better english understanding might give you more examples on how to use it and other words.
