    More angry protests

    Hello!

There were more angry protests outside the Republican convention Friday. Longman

Which one of the three choices below does the sentence mean?

    1. ‘more’ modifies angry.
    2. ‘more’ modifies protests.
    3. The context given is not enough to decide which one (that is, either 1 or 2).

    I choose 1.

    Thanks in advance

I disagree. "More" modifies "angry protests" in this case, meaning "There were further/extra angry protests."

Otherwise, it would be "There were angrier protests......."

    Re: More angry protests

    - though I'd rephrase 2 as '"more" modifies the noun phrase "angry protests"'. But then it wouldn't be much of a test.
