We have erected the following sign on our compound with mixed responses regarding the use of the word "is". Some persons agree with its use while others believe it should read "are not responsible". What is the correct word to be used?

" Miracle Church &/or Hope Prep School is not responsible for any damage, theft or loss of motor vehicle when parked on our premises"

If the church and the school are two different buildings/entities then it should be "are" as you're talking about two things, therefore plural!

You have also used "our premises" - this would therefore suggest "We are not responsible"

The fact that "or" (meaning either) comes after "and/" would that not complicate matters. Would it still be "are"?

"and/or" clearly includes both. So, both are not responsible.

I don't think "our premises" is relevant. The question is who is not responsible, not who owns the premises.
