Dear teachers,

Would you be kind enough to tell me whether I am right with my interpretation of the expression in bold in the following sentence?

Upon the conclusion of the Seven Years War in 1963, which definitely crippled the power of France in America and Europe, England decided upon a more drastic policy regarding her American colonies, which were fast getting out of hand, with their expanding commerce and budding industries.

be (get) out of hand = manifest insubordination/ give evidence of disobedience

Thank you for your efforts.

Regards,

V.
