    Hold out

"The plantiff's statements in her replication are of a purely hypothetical nature, and she has already held out the prospect of further statements following the rendering of a decision by the EPO."

What do you understand "held out the prospect of further statements" to mean? That the plaintiff will make further statements?

    Thanks a lot!

No, that the plaintiff might ('the prospect') make further statements. Oh, and I now understand what you mean by 'replication'. Replace it with 'reply' or 'response' - 'replication' is a very dated word in legal English (I say this as a legal proofreader). Anyway, good night!
