Lightbulb to be sure and to make sure, Is same meaning or not

I would like to know to be sure and to make sure, Is same meaning or similar in this sentense

"My wife and I are very serious about wanting
your help. Don't blame the British. This is dangerous for all of us,
and they want to be sure."

Can i use Want to make sure? And when i talk I sholud be say Want to be sure or Want to make sure?

For good if someone edit this sentense to correctly, I don't sure my question I write shall be improve or not

I hope everyone in this forum can understand what i mean.
