    Cool rescue board

A young man fails committing suicide and his "rescue board" is falling in love with a girl who walks on the wild side. Is "rescue board" suitable in this sense?

    Thanks

    Re: rescue board

What is a rescue board? What are you trying to make it mean?
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.

Well, he's desperate, very depressed, and grasps this possible love affair as a way to avoid another suicidal try. The text I'm trying to translate mentions (in Spanish) "tablón", (in English)" board", "plank" as a metaphorical way to express he finds in this kind of rubber ring (the love affair) a way to survive.
