    so much

    Can one say:

    a. He should practise so much that he learns to speak fluently.
    b. He should practise so much that he will learn to speak fluently.

c.He practised so much that he learnt to speak fluently.

    d. He practised so hard that he learnt to speak fluently.

The major question is whether one could use 'so much' in a positive sense. I guess I could say 'I worked so much I couldn't walk any more.' but can I say 'I worked so much I earned all the money I needed.'

There's no reason not to use "so much" in a positive sense. Another example "I enjoyed my holidays in Spain so much that I moved here"!

    Re: so much

    Thanks.

Would you say that 'a' and 'b' are both correct?

    Re: so much

Both sound strange to me. But as I'm not a teacher/native I will not dare to rewrite them.

I don't agree that the first one sounds strange. I actually think that the first one is correct. The second one sounds strange because of the structure in the second part.

I forgot to say that so that is more appropriate, not just that.

    Re: so much

I think they are both OK:
    a. He should practise so much that he learns to speak fluently.
    b. He should practise so much that he will learn to speak fluently.
