    tape the line

    Dear teachers,

Would you be kind enough to tell me whether I am right with my interpretation of the expression in bold in the following sentence from the movie ”The Matrix”?

This line is tapped, so I must be brief.
tape the line = eavesdrop telephone call

Telephone tapping describes the monitoring of telephone conversations by a third party, often by covert means

    Thank you for your efforts.

    Re: tape the line

Yes, but you have types 'tape' instead of 'tap' I would be more likely to say 'the phone is tapped', though.
