Could you help me with this? Is 'animals' home' the word for a place where cats, dogs and other animals are looked after if they don't have an owner?

thanks a lot,

***** NOT A TEACHER *****

Good afternoon, Heyt.

(1) If you talking about dogs and cats that are picked up in the streets

in large cities, then the term used in many American cities is the "animal

shelter."

(2) They keep the dogs and cats for a short time. If nobody wants

to adopt them, then the animals are "put to sleep."

(3) In my city, they use a beautiful name for an animal shelter:

Animal control and care center.

Have a nice day!

P. S. I just remembered: When I was younger, many Americans used

the word "pound" for such a place.

'Animal shelter' (courtesy of TheParser) is correct too. Is there a difference? Add to that, 'rescue centre' - there's an 'animals in distress rescue centre' a couple of miles from me (and a 'hedgehog hospital & farm' near to that!).

Ah, I have it - a 'shelter' is intended to home animals temporarily until a new owner is found; a 'sanctuary' is more of a permanent home (like the 'Donkey Sanctuary' in Cornwall, England). If I'm right, TheParser was more right than I was first time round.
